Learn new skills and gain confidence with Adobe Photoshop. The class is relaxed and friendly and individual help is given as required. Practical lessons with an experienced tutor will help to unlock the creative potential of the software. You will work with your photos - adjust colour and brightness, retouch imperfections, combine parts of different images, work with layers and add text. Experience of using a computer and a mouse is required, but you do not need any experience of Photoshop or have access to the package at home.

The Digital Accelerator at a glance:

- A 3 week full-time course, run once a month, Monday to Friday (10am-5pm)
- Completed in person at our Mac Training Centre by Hove Station
- Awards a Digital Skills Diploma valued at £2,600 but free to the participant

The Digital Accelerator course content:

- Practice using design and marketing software used by professionals: WordPress, Photoshop, InDesign
- Learn employability skills such as teamwork, networking, interview and presentation skills
- Build your own website and create an online portfolio and creative C.V.
- Understand what local opportunities are available and secure interviews for exciting jobs with great employers

The accelerator is an intensive, 3 week full time programme. We get excellent feedback but it is designed to challenge and stretch participants.

To be accepted onto the programme you should:

- Be aged 19 or above as of 31st August 2017
- Be able to commit to a full-time, 3 week course
- Be motivated and ready to secure a job and develop new digital skills that employers want
- Have a basic to good level of IT and digital literacy
- Ideally be mac, and at the very least computer, proficient
- Be able to work in a team, on a collaborative basis, under pressure and to deadlines
- Have good people skills and be mindful and respectful of how others learn (as well as awareness that this may be different to how you learn)
- Be respectful of people from different backgrounds, race, religion or gender orientation
- Be prepared to take part in a way which contributes to the positive experience and enjoyment of the rest of the group
- Tell us about any additional learning needs you may have so we can assess if the accelerator is suitable for you

Step by Step Project (Friends Centre)

The Step by Step Project aims to improve access to English, maths and language training for homeless people in Brighton and Hove. We can also provide an introduction to IT Skills.

Step by Step offers one-to-one support for homeless people, along with confidence building and support for progression into further learning. The project works in close partnership with all supported housing, education and training providers within the city.

Step by Step tutors help learners to move into part-time and full-time courses. Learning programmes are devised to meet the individual needs of the client. Initially, they are given six, weekly, one hour lessons with an option to continue for a further six weeks. However, there is no official cut-off point and it may be advantageous to some learners to continue with us for more sessions.

Learners build confidence around the skills they already have and develop the skills they need to move into more structured courses, voluntary work or attend IAG (Information, Advice and Guidance) interviews.

We are delighted that we have secured funding for this service until 2021
